WLC 400: WLC Major Capstone
Course Description:Students work with the instructor and WLC faculty advisors to research, synthesize, write and present their Capstone projects. Students will also assemble a Graduation Portfolio reflecting how each MLO was met. This course is required for all Japanese, Spanish and World Languages and Cultures majors.
Narrative:
WLC 400 was the continuation of JAPN 400. In this class we put all of the research methods and skills we learned into practice. Since I changed my topic towards the end of the semester, I was considerably far behind the rest of my cohort. During this class, I had completely redrafted my research questions, did a completely separate body of research and made a new survey. In the first few weeks, I had worked on my new research questions and started drafting a survey. I didn’t get my questions approved until the day before spring break. I got my Japanese questions approved the first day back and sent out the surveys the same day. While I was collecting data, I had worked on the background research, and made a powerpoint using the data. The project required me to use excel to organize all the raw data from both the background research and my survey results. The final assessment was a 20 minute presentation in Japanese of all my research and survey findings among the four Japanese professors and my peers.
For evidence of my project see the Capstone Project page.
